  1. I have no problem with the License Plate Readers (LPR’s) being used in public, as long as they are not used for traffic violations such as, red light violations, speeding, etc! I consider that unconstitutional, as you have a Right to confront your accuser in court. I’m not aware of any camera (yet!) that can answer questions! Example: Was there any Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in the area at the time of the violation that could have altered the camera, or software’s proper functions?

And yes, there are always the possibilities of misuse, but the actual benefits (in my opinion) far outweigh the misuse issue. In general, it is my understanding that (depending on software used) the cameras read license plates and then do things like, compare the recorded plates to known stolen vehicles, vehicles involved in, or wanted for crimes, or pursuant to court approved surveillance. Examples would include, child kidnappings, felony hit & run vehicles, bank robbery suspects, or trafficking drugs/humans.

  2. No surveillance. It’s not “will” it be abused, it’s when. And by who….
You simply cannot trust that it won’t be abused.
